Black Swan
Last Saturday, my mom, myself and step brothers girlfriend went to see Black Swan at the Pacific Northwest Ballet. We’ve been looking forward to seeing Black Swan since we bought tickets back in February. If you have not seen Swan Lake, you are missing out on a spectacular ballet. No, the movie Black Swan does not count, but it gives you the idea of how powerful the piece actually is!
That morning, I woke up early to get my workout in for the day since I knew I’d be sitting for most of the afternoon. Once I returned, the rest of the crew were out on a walk and I surprised them with a breakfast treat. Banana muffins! Those muffins were quite delicious!
The three of us got all dressed up and left for Seattle around 11:45 so that we could grab some Starbucks for a much needed caffeine fix. With our coffee in hand, we walked to the ballet for the 1pm show, grabbed a program and found our seats. My mom would say that we were in the “nose bleed” seats; however, I could see the stage perfectly. Our seats were smack dab in the center of the second tier.
There were two intermissions and five acts, roughly totaling three hours (not that I was counting). It was obvious that every performer on the stage had a gifted talent. It was amazing how in sync the choreography was. The movements were so tight that I feared there would be a collision. One of my favorite parts of the play was when Odette did 32 fouettes (fast whipping turn on one foot). It was amazing to watch. There is definitely a reason why Swan Lake is known for its extreme difficulty and technicality.
The costumes were magnificent to say the least. The ballerina’s tutu and bodice were so detailed and sparkled in the lights with every movement and the men’s costumes were impeccable and beautifully made. If those didn’t impress you, I don’t know what will.
Once Swan Lake came to an end we were off to our next destination. Earlier that morning, we all decided that the boys would come into town to celebrate my step dad’s 56th Birthday. We made our way to a local Italian restaurant, called Buca Di Beppo. This restaurant is known for its family style portions and all the different kinds’ pasta you could wish for. I don’t think anyone left without a full belly. (I am sure he’ll forgive me for this photo!)
By the time we got home, My mom and I thought it would be a good night to watch Black Swan and relax.
Have a good Tuesday night! I am off to the gym!
